Hur vågar man säga ifrån?

Sloga heroes
Heroes on the Court – an investment in our boys and in Uppsala
For us at Sloga Basket, basketball is more than just a sport. It is a place where children and young people can find a sense of community, grow, and learn to work together. Through the "Heroes on the Court" project, we want to give our boys the opportunity to develop both on and off the basketball court.
During the autumn of 2026 and the spring of 2027, the Sloga Boys' U14 team is carrying out this project in collaboration with *Shanazis hjältar* (Shanazi’s Heroes), with support from the Swedish Gender Equality Agency. "Heroes on the Court" is a gender equality initiative aimed at preventing violence and crime. We want to boost the boys' self-esteem, foster secure relationships, and provide a space for them to discuss topics that often don't get addressed in everyday life.
Conversations that strengthen the team
Every other week, we combine basketball practice with discussions about friendship, emotions, peer pressure, respect, and expectations regarding how a boy "should" be. Together with facilitators from *Shanazis hjältar*, the boys reflect on questions such as: How do you support a friend who is struggling? How do you find the courage to speak up? And how are we affected by the expectations of others?
The work is grounded in the boys' own thoughts and experiences. The initial sessions have focused on self-image, the unique contributions each boy brings to the team, and the personal qualities they wish to develop. An anonymous survey helps us identify their needs and track progress throughout the project.
Adults are part of the change
Fathers and other male role models also participate in their own discussion sessions. We adults also need to reflect on the expectations and values we pass on, how we respond to emotions, and how we can provide support when the boys need us.
By involving both the boys and the adults around them, we aim to create the conditions for these conversations to continue at home, within the team, and among friends.
We want to make a difference early on.
Uppsala faces significant challenges regarding violence and a lack of safety. We want to harness the sense of community found in sports to talk to our boys at an early stage—about how we treat one another, handle conflicts, and resist destructive expectations.
Through *Hjältar på plan* (Heroes on the Field), we aim to help the boys grow into secure teammates and fellow human beings who dare to show emotion, take responsibility, and stand up for one another. It is an investment in our boys and in our Uppsala.
